David Cole

David Cole is a Professor at Georgetown Law. He is the legal affairs correspondent for The Nation, a commentator on National Public Radio: All Things Considered, and the author of three books: Enemy Aliens: Double Standards and Constitutional Freedoms in the War on Terrorism (2005); Terrorism and the Constitution: Sacrificing Civil Liberties for National Security (2005) (with James X. Dempsey); and No Equal Justice: Race and Class in the American Criminal Justice System (1999).

Trading Liberty for Security after September 11

What we have done since September 11 is not to make the hard choice of choosing which of our liberties we are willing to forego, but rather to sacrifice their liberties—those of immigrants, and especially of Arab and Muslim immigrants—for the purported security of the rest of us.
